Another excellent year for Blocks – Legal 500 results announced

BLOCKS Solicitors with offices in Ipswich and Felixstowe  had another excellent year in the 2010 edition of the Legal 500 with its corporate and commercial practice, fronted by Andrew Fleming  and Howard Wright, referred to as a ‘ very thorough’ team, citing the raising of the firm’s commercial profile in the region with some major transactions, including a large asset acquisition from administrators and the share sale of a national software house.

The commercial property team was recommended and raised its rankings with large-scale development and funding work for housing associations. The firm was also praised for its work in the licensed property market (‘The service is truly excellent and very good value for money’), for its niche work for medical  and dental surgeries and its growing practice in representing national commercial lenders.

Gerry Field continues to advise agriculture clients, increasingly in connection with alternative use and development of farming land including’ green business’ options.

With a ‘buoyant’ employment practice, Frances Barker (‘busy with redundancy matters and contentious work’) has been joined by experienced mediation specialist Dilys Lloyd from Eversheds and Victoria Young from  Taylor Vinters, which ‘ confirms’ the firm’s ‘ growing influence’.

On the litigation side, Graham Mead is praised for his approachable style and a willingness to devote time to ensure that clients understand the implications of any decision in commercial and licensing cases.

The arrival of Louise Long to head the private client practice is seen as an assurance that Blocks’ maintains a significant portfolio of trust and probate work, often for high net worth estates’.

“We are particularly pleased that the Legal 500 not only recommended us in the core areas of work we undertake’, said senior partner “but also raised us in the ranking levels.  We continue to pursue  the fostering of expertise in depth, which is reflected in our recent appointments and we look forward to providing good and cost-effective legal services to the region in the coming year ‘.
