According to the Annual Report of the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office for 2014/15, 32 Judicial Office holders were removed, being nearly double the 17 that were removed in 2013/14.

The 2014/2015 figure can be broken down into 19 Magistrates, 8 Tribunal Judges and 5 Judges.  There was a sanction for misuse of judicial statues, two sanctions for civil proceedings or criminal convictions, four sanctions related to professional conduct, 9 sanctions for inappropriate behaviour or comment and 15 for not fulfilling judicial duties.  In March, three office holders were removed for viewing pornographic websites at work http://www.lawgazette.co.uk/news/judges-removed-from-office-after-viewing-porn-at-work/5047565.article.

An additional 16 Judicial Office holders received a remand and a further 26 received formal advice or warning.  15 Judicial Office holders resigned during the course of disciplinary proceedings and 1 was suspended.

Let’s see what next year holds!
